Travel

I am scheduled to travel this Wednesday until Friday - travelling to Davao on Wednesday, heading to Cebu on Thursday and returning to Manila on Friday. It is a short business travel. I tried to keep it as short as possible. I asked my OB if travelling is safe, and she said yes. In fact, i also went to Singapore last April when i was only around 9-10 weeks. Things turned out fine. Now, i am a bit skeptical on travelling, maybe because hubby doesn't want me to travel if he is to decide. However, this is purely business. I should have done this earlier on. I would need to meet up with all my staff, emphasize our KPIs, do some interview for a vacant position in Cebu and discuss other issues. Dinner with the staff is also part of the agenda but i plan to end the night early so me and my babies could rest.
Considering the short distance, i do expect me and my babies will be fine. I promise myself i will beg off business travel opportunities whenever possible - and that may even include a meeting in Phuket scheduled in August.

Weekend

Saturday was dull to me as i spent the entire day at home (recovering from a bad headache Friday night). I had a marathon of Desperate Housewives series again. When i checked out our laundry to segregate the clothes, wow, i was stunned to see that we have tons of them piled up in the laundry area. I instantly felt how bad a wife i am for keeping all these mess. So despite Che not wanting me to do any household chores, much more doing the laundry, i still did. I finished about half of them and all the towels and sleepwear will be dropped off the laundry shop. I can not finish it all.
Sunday was a hectic day for us. We left the house at 9am, picked up Sato, attended 10am mass and had lunch at my mom's. We then went to Robinson's mall to buy school stuff for Sato and then we headed to Tiendesitas to meet Che's close highschool friends and their wives and kids. We were only 3 families but mind you, we were 16 in total.
Gerard and Resie had triples plus their 2 yayas. Dennis and Daphne came with their 2 kids that looks like a twin (1 year gap) and the 2 yayas. It was a fun time. We went to Fun Ranch and the kids enjoyed it. I did too! In fact, i'd like to come back there next weekend and bring our cute niece, Sachi.

It was very interesting to hear Resie's stories on her pregnancy with the triplets. Since i am also expecting multiples, i ask her all the questions i have in mind. Interesting enough, she was told that she will be having twins on her first ultrasound (about 2 months) and with another ultrasound at 3 months, she was detected to having triplets! Whew! They are all identical, i can hardly identify which one is which. It was tiring but yet a fun day for us. I am sure that Che even enjoyed it more.

Kikay Stuff

Lately, i think i am becoming more kikay. I like the smell of perfume (smells fresh and girly) and putting on creams and oil (to prevent stretchmarks or just simply to moisturize). Here are my current favorites:

Earth Therapeutics Cocoa Butter Skin Repair Balm

With a subtle tropical scent, this super-hydrating Cocoa Butter formula nurtures and nourishes the skin. The addition of moisturizing Mango enhances all the therapeutic benefits of Cocoa Butter to preserve skin’s elasticity during and after pregnancy, helping to prevent the appearance of stretch marks. The addition of protective Vitamin E helps heal the skin after sun and wind exposure, preventing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Rich enough to use on the body, mild enough to use on the face. Nutrition so good your skin will drink it up. Greaseless base and contains no mineral oil. 8 oz. Jar.

Neutrogena Body Oil

Dove Body Wash Fresh Moisture

The Body Shop Peppermint Cooling Foot Rescue Treatment
I always adore D&G Light Blue but i take it aside for now and sprinkle myself with either of the following scents (depending on my mood):

The Body Shop Spirit of Moonflower Eau de Toilette

Ralph Lauren Blue Eau de Toilette

Ralph Lauren Ralph Eau de Toilette

Smells good!

Random

  • My Danish boss who is based in Singapore will be here Tuesday-Thursday so this week will generally be busy with meetings, lunches and dinner. It's the first time he will be visiting PHI (although we've met in an Area meeting in Singapore last Feb) after i assumed my current position 3 months ago. I hope i can make a good impression. Hehe.
  • Che celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday, the 13th. I didn't bought him any gift. I told him i will buy him a bicycle that he wants (since i don't know anything about bicycles, i'll just let him choose). We did nothing special. I just prepared him a breakfast in bed then we had lunch at Greenhills Promenade with my family (also in celebration of Mother's day). We heard mass in the afternoon and had a simple dinner at home (he cooked mami). Che doesn't feel like going out anymore kasi. I felt guilty for not preparing anything and i even didn't bought him a cake. Tsk! What a bad wife i am. I'll try to make up next time.
  • My in-laws just came back today after a 3-day vacation in Baguio. We were left behind as they just planned the trip last Thursday, 2 days before the actual trip. Due to my doctor's appointment on Saturday that we prefer not to reschedule and also the long travel which could be tiring for me, we opted to stay home and have a quiet long weekend.
  • I asked my mom to cook meals for us this week. This is cheaper and more convenient (we just fry or pop it in the microwave!). We have stocked up the following in our fridge: sisig bangus, menudo, chicken curry, pork bbq, crispy pata, bangus belly, pork giniling plus the molo and lumpiang shanghai i have prepared some weeks ago).
  • I cleaned our fridge today (which was long overdue) to accomodate the stuff we just got. Che commented that our ref really looks like a ref. I am really pleased because at least we have a good stock of food (meals and fruits). For several weeks, we have been dining out after work and it costs us a lot of money. Now, we will be enjoying healthy home cooked meal. :)
  • All the pregnancy signs have disappeared. I feel back to my old self prior pregnancy. I can somehow do light household chores (i did our laundry again over the weekend). I still easily get tired though and require long hours of sleep (at least 8 hours). If before i can spend 4-6 hours in a mall, my maximum tolerance now is 2 hours.
  • Lately, i like the smell of fragrance (something light and fresh). I want a bath foam that smells good and i found a good one at Shopwise - Dove foam bath (in green bottle). Smells yummy! I also bought the cologne from Body Shop which i have always wanted- Moonflower eau de toilette! I used to have a Moonflower foam bath and i really liked the smell. Those were also what i gave my female staffs last Christmas. I want to spray the Moonflower all over my body even before going to bed!

I think this is all for now. :)

The C-section

Before i went to my scheduled appointment to my OB Gyne yesterday, i prepared a list of questions to ask.

One of the questions i asked is the possibility of having a normal delivery for pregnant women like me who's carrying twins. She said, of course, normal delivery is possible and it actually depends on the position of the baby (there were medical terms i did not actually understood). But of all the twin births she delivered, all of them were cesarean, unfortunately, because of the baby's position at the time they were due. Ouch!

My sister-in-law, who referred me to my OB Gyne, told me about the two types of cesarean cut - bikini (horizontal) and the mid cut (vertical). Not sure if the mid cut is the right term here but that was as far as i could remember my doctor told me. My OB advised that she normally does mid cut because it is safer and easier. Exactly as what she said, the mid cut is done for her convenience and the patient's convenience. She will do a bikini cut as per request of the patient but charges more because it is more delicate. She also said that it is risky on the second pregnancy. Some doctors and patients prefer the bikini cut for aesthetic purposes. And i am one of those who would like to have a bikini cut in case i will have cesarean delivery.
I texted a friend/officemate who delivered her 2 kids via c-section to ask her of the differences on these 2 cuts. She had a mid-cut because she left it up to the OB to do what's better. She said that she had 2 OB-Gyne and both of them gave her a choice on what type of cut she wants and that it's actually no big deal about it. Her second OB even questioned her why she chose a mid-cut over the bikini.
This makes me really puzzled and admittedly scared. I do have a bigger chance of delivering my babies via c-section due to twin pregnancy (although normal delivery runs in our family). And with this, i would like to know more about the 2 types of cut and their risks.

I checked the internet and here is what i saw regarding the differences of the horizontal vs vertical cut:
After the anesthesia takes effect, the doctor makes an incision through your abdomen. In most cases, a "bikini cut" is used. This is a horizontal incision just above the pubic area. In an emergency, she may make a vertical cut, which extends from the pubic area to the navel and allows quicker access to the baby.

http://www.epigee.org/health/cesarean.html
A small horizontal cut is made just above your pubic bone. This is called a bikini cut and is less risky then the vertical classical cut. It is less likely to rupture if you decide to have another baby.

The most common reason that a cesarean section is performed (in 35% of all cases, according to the United States Public Health Service) is the woman has had a previous c-section. The "once a cesarean, always a cesarean" rule originated when the uterine incision was made vertically (termed a "classical incision"); the resulting scar was weak and had a risk of rupturing in subsequent deliveries. Today, the incision is almost always made horizontally across the lower end of the uterus (called a low transverse incision), resulting in reduced blood loss and a decreased chance of rupture. This kind of incision allows many women to have a vaginal birth after a cesarean (VBAC).

Fetal Heartbeat

Yesterday, Che and I went to our OB Gyne for our scheduled appointment. I texted my OB hours before the visit if we can hear our babies' hearbeat using a doppler device. She texted back and said yes we can try.

I was very excited as i lie in bed. Funny how the doppler device looks like. It's like a mini phone. After seconds of massaging the thing in my abdomen, we found one hearbeat. It was 169 beats per minute. Then we looked for the other baby's heartbeat. The second heartbeat that was detected was also 169 and my OB said there should be a difference of at least of 10beats for the twins. So she continued on searching. We heard another one and then the unexpected happen... the doppler device run out of battery! We were so bitin. But the doctor said, it was fine because we found two heartbeats naman. The last one was faster.

We were bitin and would love to repeat it again.

Duo Strollers

Lately, when i have time, i have been searching for some double strollers on the internet. Unfortunately, i can not seem to find one here in Manila so internet is one of my resource so i can possibly ask a friend either in the US or Singapore to buy it for me. This one looks ok to me (costs USD200 as against others that costs average USD300 and up). I would prefer a side-by-side stroller rather than the back to back (i can't recall how it is called). I just want both of my babies to have that same attention whenever we go out. Unlike in the back-to-back duo stroller, i feel that the baby at the back will get little attention and may feel suffocated and unconfortable (may even end up kicking his twin sibling in front).

I find it doubly cute to be pushing a duo stroller and i can't wait to see my babies on it. But they said that we should wait till i am at least 7months due before we purchase any baby stuff. Sniff, if only i can fast forward the time!

Hunger Pangs

I ate a lot today. Big meal for breakfast (tocino, egg, chicken curry and rice). Big meal for lunch (chicken curry, a taste of dinugguan, pinakbet and rice). I thought i won't be hungry for tonight and will then opt for fruits for dinner. But now, hunger pangs strike me. I need food!

Being forgetful can cost you money

I admit i am so forgetful. I forget where i put my stuff, forget to leave the keys on our main door overnight, and forget how to cook a meal i have already done so in the past.

Last Friday, i opened a bank account in BPI. Since one of the requirements is an ID photo, i searched my wallet to see if i still have some photos left. Lo and behold, tucked under my picture, i saw a Rustan's GC worth P2500 issued January 1, 2006 and expiring on January 1, 2007 and a check issued by my mother in law worth P10,000 dated March 17, 2006! I can not imagine i have kept this GC and a stale check for over a year! If i can recall it correctly, those were our post wedding gifts! I vaguely remembered that my mother in law issued a check to us which was a gift of one of their friends who was not able to attend the wedding as they reside in Cebu. The Rustan's GC i can not even remember who gave us (tsk!).

The GC of course can not be used anymore (sayang!) For the check, we just asked our mother in law to change the date (whew!)

Being forgetful do have a lot of disadvantages. Is there a medicine to cure this?

Yey!

Finally, i bought the book on Multuple Pregnancy. Most of the branches of National Bookstore and Powerbooks does not have a copy on stock. Good thing, it was available at Greenbelt 1! I hope it will be useful...
